When my son was 8 months old I began making him kale smoothies from scratch. I obsessively made this for him every single day for the next 2 years. Because I had such a difficult & high stress pregnancy I was very anxious that he would somehow get sick, so I became fixated on securing his health with nutrition. As he outgrew the toddler years I realized my anxiety and sense of worry passed to him. He developed a healthy relationship with food but not as much of the same with himself or his mind.
I was blessed to discover there were ways to restore peace in our lives that put me in a position to nurture his well-being on a more holistic level. While I continue to prepare foods that help support our mental health via the production of the happy hormone, serotonin such as leafy greens, berries, nuts, tuna, bell peppers, and avocado, he can now
also have a brownie with his meal rather than only after or not at all, and a cup of tea, or a cup of hot cheethos when we are talkin about our feelings.
Even though on occasion I still make my son his favorite kale smoothie, i no longer need it to assure myself my son is just fine.
